Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I join a team?

Most players join through their high school. If your school already has a team, you can sign up through them.
If your school doesn’t have a team yet, reach out to us and we can help you get connected or start one.

Do I need experience to play?

Not at all. Many players are brand new to lacrosse. The league is designed to be welcoming and development-focused, we have several divisions to appeal to new and experienced players.

What if my school doesn’t have a team?

We’re actively growing the league. If there’s interest at your school, we can help guide you through starting a team, including what you need and how to get set up.

What grades can play?

The league is open to high school students. Specific grade ranges may vary slightly by team, but generally Grades 9–12.

How do I register?

Registration is done online through our league system. You’ll be able to select your team (if applicable) and complete everything there.

How much does it cost to play?

Costs can vary depending on the team or school. Your coach or school will provide specific details during registration.

When does the season run?

The season typically runs from April through June

What equipment do I need?

This depends on whether you are playing men’s or women’s field:

  • Men’s field requires full protective equipment (helmet, gloves, pads, stick)
  • Women’s field requires a stick, goggles, and a mouthguard

If you’re unsure, reach out and we can help guide you.

Do I need to buy my own equipment?

In most cases, yes. Some schools or programs may have limited gear available, so it’s always worth asking your coach.

What rules does the league follow?

Games are based on World Lacrosse rules, with some modifications depending on the division.

Is women’s field the same as traditional field lacrosse?

The women’s league currently uses a modified format to support development and growth. This includes a smaller-sided game and adjusted field setup to make it more accessible and fast-paced.

How does a school start a team?

If your school is interested, reach out to us directly. We can walk you through everything from registration to equipment to scheduling.

Do coaches need certification?

Yes, coaches are expected to complete required certifications. We provide information and support to help coaches get properly set up.

Where are games played?

Games are played at various fields across Manitoba depending on the schedule.

Who do I contact if I have questions?

You can reach us through the contact page or by email, and we’ll be happy to help.

What is the Team Bond and Why Is It Required?

The team bond is a refundable deposit that remains on file with the league while a school has an active team participating in the MHSFLL.

The bond helps protect the league against outstanding fines, unpaid fees, damaged equipment, or other unresolved balances. It also helps ensure accountability and stability as the league continues to grow.

If a school leaves the league and all accounts are in good standing, the full bond amount is returned.

The bond is not considered an additional league fee. It functions similarly to a security deposit and is only used if financial obligations remain unresolved.
